  2. IRIX 6.5.12 Installation Tools and Overlays, May 2001 README

  5. The IRIX 6.5.12 Overlay CDs contain the miniroot and other components
  6. necessary to boot the system into the basic installation environment
  7. for operating system installs and upgrades. They also contain
  8. documentation called "Customer Welcome", which includes Start Here
  9. pages that provide important information you should read before you
  10. install this release of IRIX.

  12.  To view the Start Here pages:
  13.  1. Insert the Installation Tools and Overlays CD 1-of-3 May 2001
  14.     into the CD-ROM drive.
  15.  2. Open a Web browser and enter the following address:
  16.     file:/CDROM/WhatsNew/yourSystem.html
  17.  
  18.     NOTE: Literally type yourSystem.html; do not
  19.           type your actual system name.
  20.  
  21.  3. Click the "Start Here" link.

  33. Carefully follow the instructions in the CD booklet that came packaged
  34. with the 6.5.12 CDs.  It is especially important to follow the
  35. instructions when upgrading from a release prior to IRIX 6.5.  Among
  36. other things, these instructions tell you how to insert all
  37. applicable IRIX 6.5 CDROMs  (or open all network distribution
  38. directories) as well as the 6.5.12 CDROMs, before issuing any "keep"
  39. or "install" commands.  If this is not done, your installation will
  40. not be successful (you will get unresolvable conflicts). Refer to the
  41. CD installation booklet for a list of applicable and necessary CDs.

  43. As a reminder, you may want to check "Caveat and Release Note Updates"
  44. link at   http://support.sgi.com/6.5/caveat_updates.html   for any
  45. late-breaking information.
